Own Your Site!

One thing I keep running into with clients is site ownership.  When you hire someone to do your website, do you know what you’re getting?  In many cases clients find out the person or agency they hired owns both their hosting and their domain name!  It can result in a real mess when hiring someone else to manage or update your site.  Ownership of the domain and control of the hosting should always remain with you.

When I work on a site the first thing set up is the domain and hosting under you or your business.  It’s an annual cost that you will be able to maintain going forward.  Agencies charge you for it too, though sometimes adding on extra fees.  I disagree with that practice.

With that expense and ownership now 100% yours, your developer can go in and set up your site.  You’re only paying them for the design and programming.
