Sometimes when I have a hard time falling asleep, I close my eyes and imagine that I had just won the Powerball Lottery Jackpot and over 600 million dollars.
\nOh, man\u2026what would I do with all that money?
\nI know it\u2019s not very Christian to have such fantasies, \u201cthe love of money being the root of all evil\u201d and all that.
\nWe may not want to be..and most churches say we shouldn\u2019t be..but the majority of us are, by nature, materialistic and measure success\u00a0 by the amount of \u201cstuff\u201d we have or the size of the amount in our checkbook.<\/p>\n

Anyway, back to my fantasy.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve just won over a half billion dollars.
\nLinda and I are jumping around in our now too small house screaming for joy.
\n\u201cWhat\u2019s the first thing we\u2019ll do with our riches?\u201d
\n\u201cWe\u2019ll give 10 percent to the church.\u201d
\n\u201cWhich church?\u201d
\n\u201cI don\u2019t know pick one.\u201d
\n\u201cDon\u2019t you suppose churches might have a problem receiving money that came from \u00a0gambling?\u201d
\n\u201cNot the Catholics..didn\u2019t they invent bingo?\u201d
\n\u201cShut-up..you\u2019ve always had a problem with my religion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOkay, let\u2019s forget that for now. How about the kids?., we\u2019ll set them up financially for life, of course.\u201d
\n\u201cWho should get how much? Some need it more than others..do they all get the same?\u201d Will there be hard feelings? What about inheritance taxes they\u2019d have to pay?\u201d
\n\u201cI don\u2019t know, we\u2019ll work it out..stop fretting about it.\u201d
\n\u201cI\u2019m not fretting, I just don\u2019t want the kids to be hurt by our attempts at generosity.\u201d
\nMaybe we better call a lawyer.””\u00a0How much will that cost? Won\u2019t they try rip us off?”\u00a0” I don\u2019t know. Who cares? We\u2019re loaded.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I suppose we should probably build a mansion\u00a0somewhere in town and fill it with the finest furniture, a pool\u00a0and plasma TV\u2019s for every room\u201d.
\n\u201cYeah, like you don\u2019t watch enough TV already!\u201d Sorry\u2026I guess you\u2019re right..we should get a nice new place but I wonder if our friends will think we\u2019re just showing off and maybe not want to be our friends anymore?\u201d
\n\u201cWho cares..we\u2019ll find new friends.\u201d
\n\u201cDon\u2019t be ridiculous.\u201d
\n\u201cCars..I want lots of cars. Oh, and motorcycles. I\u2019ve always wanted a Harley. Now I can have as many as I like.\u201d
\n\u201cWhy.. you can\u2019t drive more than one vehicle at a time.”
\n\u201cYou just don\u2019t get it do you?\u201d\u00a0\u201cHeck, we can even buy a private jet airplane and fly anywhere we want.\u201d
\n\u201cWho\u2019s going to fly it?\u201d
\n\u201cWe\u2019ll hire a pilot.\u201d
\n\u201cWouldn\u2019t it be kind of stupid to hire a personal pilot that we\u2019d probably only use a couple times a year?\u201d Besides, where\u00a0would we go?\u201d
\n\u201cI dunno..Europe, I suppose.\u201d We could buy a fully-staffed yacht and sail to all the fancy ports along the Mediterranean.\u201d
\n\u201cOh sure, I can just see the two of us pasty-white overweight Midwesterners roaming around\u00a0by ourselves on that big boat in our swimming trunks.\u201d
\nBesides, I\u2019m scared of the water, caviar makes me gag, champagne is overrated \u00a0and I sure wouldn\u2019t feel very comfortable being waited-on hand and foot by strangers in white pants.\u201d
\n\u201cWell, for cryin\u2019 out loud, we\u2019ve suddenly got this fortune and there\u2019s nothing you want to spend it on.\u201d
\n\u201cYou don\u2019t have to yell.\u201d
\n\u201cSorry..we have never argued about anything like this before.\u201d
\n\u201cI know. Everything was fine until we got all this money.\u201d
\n\u201cHow would you feel about just giving it back?\u201d<\/p>\n
