Sorry for my extended absence from the blog.<\/p>\n
I have lots of reasons (excuses) for the hiatus but the main one is a total frustration at trying to come up with something witty and humorous at a time when this country of ours is in such a sorry state.<\/p>\n
It would seem almost insulting to write about fluff at a time when these are the typical news headlines: \u00a0\u201cTwo more police officers shot in (name a city) as marchers take to the streets in protest against racism.\u201d Or: \u201cRadical Islamists claim responsibility for latest suicide bombing attack that kills scores in (Name a country). Or:\u00a0 \u201cDonald Trump continues his march to the presidency as supporters overlook character flaws and outright lies in favor of promised radical changes in the way Washington does business.\u201d\u00a0 Or: \u201cHillary vows that, if elected, we\u2019ll return to the good ol\u2019 days of the Clinton White House.\u201d I don\u2019t mind telling you I haven\u2019t been this concerned about the future of the U.S. of A.\u00a0 since 1962 when President Kennedy stood toe to toe with the Russians over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles 90 miles off our shore in Cuba. If Khrushchev hadn\u2019t blinked and pulled them out, it would most assuredly have resulted in World War III and all those movies about the apocalypse would have become reality as atom bombs began falling from the sky.<\/p>\n
Speaking of Cuba, I am glad that, in my lifetime, President Obama and whoever is running the show over there these days, decided it was stupid to continue this neighborly feud that\u2019s been going on now for over 55 years and reopen the doors to diplomacy, trade and tourism.\u00a0 In fact, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Holiday Vacations..the company that Linda and I have hosted so many tours with over the years, is actually offering a trip to Cuba in December.\u00a0 Would love to tag along on that one but it doesn\u2019t involve a local host\u2026at least not this time.<\/p>\n
It has been a fun summer so far with our Alaska tour consuming much of June..followed by lots of family get-togethers which have become more anticipated and appreciated as time marches on.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s sweet corn season again: the biggest temptation I\u2019ve encountered since my battle of the bulge began last October. \u00a0I\u2019ve been in a holding pattern since abandoning the prescribed program after less than anticipated results. Time to get back on the weight loss wagon, though.\u00a0If only there was a diet that didn\u2019t discourage any and all cocktail consumption. \u00a0I\u2019ve gotten used to starting each day with a good B.M. (That\u2019s bloody Mary, folks.)<\/p>\n
Bottom line is that I\u2019m so grateful for every day..especially when it seems so many old pals are facing life and death struggles mainly with that damn cancer.<\/p>\n
So\u2026here\u2019s to your good health my friends along with a vow to return here on a regular basis with observations and commentary on more uplifting topics. Remember, too, it’s nice to know you folks are out there. A simple comment at the bottom is always appreciated..both pro and con.<\/p>\n
